Fulham Irish win the Shield at the 2007 GAA All-star tournament in Dubai

Date : 26th Jan 2007

Location : Dubai Polo Grounds, U.A.E

After losing our All-Ireland Quater final the previous week the hopes of keepng the traveling F.I. crowd sober were low - and it turned out justifiably so !!

As the first 3 members of the F.I contingent in Dubai Des 'DKNY' Kenny, Diramaid 'Mad Dog' Maher and myself got the chance to train with Peter Canavan as he took the Dubai Celts through their pases ahead of the tournament . In the game at teh end of the training the full forward line consistde of Peter Canavan (yes - the greatest forward of his generation), Johny Murthagh (yes - the international jockey) and Des Kenny (yes - the legend from Easkey) . I ended up marking Canavan - all I can say is he only got 2 points on me (I'm not going to comment on how hard he was trying !!!)

After much alcohol consumption we finally played our tournament on Friday . With alcohol levels higher than Goerge best on the his wedding day we took to the field . Needless to say getting hammered by Hong Kong. Thankfully we got a few hours off before our next game and after that we never lost for the rest of the day .

The final was played against the Dublin St.Vincents A team. We even had Mr Michael O’Muircheartaigh commentating live. We bet them 2-6 to 1-3 with yours truly scoring 1-2 including the winning goal (thanks for the pass Mr Gillic :). In my last game for the club that sealed my place as Fulham's top scorer for the tournamnet although I can't see Noel Nicolson worrying too much if I ever end up back in London again :)
